I like Colin Farrell!

So today, I read this pretty awesome...no, really awesome story of one of Hollywood's A list actors doing an act of kindness for a homeless man. You can't imagine the excitement I felt because it put into perspective how one human being's act of kindness CAN make a huge difference in the life of another:
Colin Farrell, the former "Lusty Leprechaun" whose party-fueled lifestyle landed him in rehab in late 2005, practiced a not-so-random act of kindness while stumping for the Woody Allen-directed flick "Cassandra's Dream" this week at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Toronto Sun reports the scruffy star was signing autographs outside his hotel when he spotted a homeless gent he'd met three years ago, when he was in town filming "A Home at the End of the World." Turns out Farrell had taken advantage of a radio promotion offering $2,000 to anyone who could deliver him to the station, collaring the guy -- nicknamed Stress by locals -- and helping him claim the bounty. The paper says his Irish eyes were a-twinkle at the reunion, and he urged his down-and-out acquaintance to climb into his chauffeur-driven car. Then, in a Bizarro version of the makeover montage from "Pretty Woman," Colin accompanied Stress to a Europe Bound Travel Outfitters outpost, which sells everything from clothes to tents. "Get him anything he wants," Farrell reportedly told the employees, who fetched his new pal a $500 coat, a high-end sleeping bag and a rolling backpack filled with underwear, socks and boots, all useful for the coming Toronto winter. "Cool guy," the store's manager tells the Sun of the actor. "He doesn't act like a movie star." According to the staffer, Colin had an easy rapport with Stress, who was "going around, grabbing stuff." The bill for the philanthropic shopping trip came to more than $2,000, but Farrell's beneficence didn't end there. He also hit a nearby cash machine, withdrawing a stack of bills and reportedly arranged to pay for a year's rent on a room for what we're now guessing is his biggest fan. "I'm all set up," Stress is quoted as telling a local. "This is my chance to get off the street." The paper estimates that Farrell's generosity set him back around $10,000.

Now, with that being said, I know my Homeless Family Challenge can happen and his story just solidified the fact that I am on the right track! Unless someone doesn't want help or has some serious issue that keeps them chained to their situation, there is no reason why this couldn't happen. It can and must be something people committ to...and really, how hard can it be, since you are in effect, doing something wonderful for yourself and at the same time doing something wonderful for someone else! You're giving them a chance!

After reading what Colin did, I would love to be in contact with his *people* and offer him this same challenge (his friend "Stress" included!); so Colin, tell your people get in touch with my people, let's do this and make this happen, okay?

The Family Homeless Prevention Project

Every year a new family is added to the rolls of homelessness. Every year a family finds themselves going from homeowner or apartment renter to living in a homeless shelter, all because they found themselves victims of the One paycheck away from homelessness syndrome. It is as sad a tale as it is disheartening to find an already struggling family who went from being a family of 2 incomes, whittled down to a family of one income, and now finding themselves facing the harsh reality of being on the other side of that foodshare hand out line. That same family who used to donate food and clothing are now the new users of such services. I have for many years, wondered how to help stem the tide of such a situation and it always boiled down to "but I am but one person, how can I really make a difference?" So, I searched and searched, for a way that could make that difference happen. What I finally found made my heart leap for joy and sing with great happiness; I found that Golden Grail that could produce a win-win situation and produce more homeless advocate benefactors than anything else I had ever seen! It falls within my Diva motto of "Do Something For Yourself That Helps Someone Else!" and it does and then some! I thank those who are on the front lines of homelessness day in and day out. such as the Family Homelessness Prevention agency.

Most people don't think about homelessness when they go on vacation to their yearly week at their $10-$20 or even $50,000 Timeshare condo. Some just plan a 7-14 day cruise and some just search for the best online deal they can find and book that way. But what if there were a way to not only take the world's most luxurious, 4 & 5 Star, hotel and resort vacations but at the same time, you could help take a bite out of the homeless population-for a chosen individual or family? Would you do it? Here's to hoping that you would! Turn up your speakers and learn

Today Is YOUR Brand New Day...

Today Is Your Brand New Day

Imagine waking up in the morning, rolling over and sleepily peering over at your alarm clock. It's 10:00AM and you feel rested, assured and ready to take on the day. There's nothing shocking you awake in the mornings anymore...just the relaxation of relative peace and comfort. You throw back your luxury Versai sheets and comforter and smile contentedly. You've decided to work for yourself and you're responsible for your own schedule; your own destiny.

You turn your computer on, and while it is starting up, you head on over to the pot of coffee your maid has fired up. When you return, you see that you've received numerous emails in your company's back office, all shouting the same exciting news, "You've just made several $1,000 Platinum sales!"

That's right, while you were sleeping, thousands of dollars poured into your account, ready for you to do with as you please. You smile broadly as you think of not only how your life got on the fast track, but how you also helped other families who were once down and out, get on the fast track, too! Who says gaining financial stability has to be hard. I didn't, so why are you?

Sharon Stone..Jamie Foxx or an Insurance Exec? Are you listening?

Okay, so you're a hotshot executive, probably running your own company, taking those long, exotic and gorgeously tropical vacations. You live in a beautiful home with a beautiful family, no worries about food or utilities, along with the family dog and driving a beautiful car, with a choice of 2 or 3 to pick from. How does it feel to live the life everybody else seems to only dream about? What is it like to take those long winded, exotic vacations. Ahh, it must be nice...

My curiousity begs the question; where are you? Where are those of you in financial positions who could more than help the less fortunate become fortunate? My question is: "Are you up for putting your money and your prestige where your mouth is? Are you up for my challenge of stamping out homelessness, 3 familes at a time? I want those executives, company vice presidents and others who want something more fulfilling in their lives to come forward and fulfill someone else's dream; the dream of stability. Travelers, Aetna, Ing, BKM, ESPN, The Hartford, etc. I'm quite sure many executives have done the seasonal thing of scooping up and doling out food at their local soup kitchen and food pantry. You've also probably helped collect food and given clothing items to help individuals sustain themselves for one more week or day...and that's a good thing, but imagine for once, taking it one step further and being the benefactor for a family who's hanging on by a hopeful thread. Imagine seeing families stable for the first time, doing the things they want to do instead of what they have to do, to survive. Oh and the priceless smiles of joy on their children's faces! Imagine the happiness of being together under one roof or driving a decent car they were able to purchase that now belongs to them-all thanks to you!

It's not hard to do; you're just doing something for yourself that does something for someone else. You bought a membership that will give your families endless hours of vacation memories! So, if you could help another family live the American dream, you know, like you're living, would you? I would love to hear what you have to say. I'm only but an email away(kissmylayoff@yahoo.com) so email me! Combating homelessness is at the very core of my being and raising the bar on it is what drives me. I'm hoping it will drive you, too.

So, what are you going to do with all that celebrity?

Okay, so you're rich and you're famous and maybe even fabulous but what, if anything beyond posing and smiling for the cameras and talking about your next big picture are you going to do...for someone who has less? Much less. You know, the homeless. The people that you may or may not know exist or probably don't know what to do with or how to help. That is my crusade and those are the people I am most focused on getting the necessary help for. I've seen way too many celebrities do almost nothing with their celebrity-dom, that is worth anything more than being *seen* by the major (and minor) tabloids. Most try to stay visible through an increasingly glaring ideal of knowing that Hollywood is always and forever churning out the next best thing because suddenly they are no longer that (screaming fan) teen pop prince or princess. They are now suddenly 25-something and going fast over-the-hill(lol)! So, my question is, while you're still hot, what exactly are you going to do with your hotness-that is of substance? What real causes that actually affect (positive) change in someone's life are you going to use your fortune and fame to push or help? Have you ever wondered about the homeless and how they sleep at night? Have you ever wondered how a family (mostly headed up by a single mother) will make it through the next days or weeks? What besides your next big picture or red carpet, movie premiere do you wonder or worry about? I'm curious. So tell me...

You've Got the Rank & File-So What Are YOU Going To Do?

Every year I hear or read about some celebrities who donate to the homeles causes but yet I never ever hear about any one individual having gone from being homeless because of it. Why is that? Well, I'm putting those celebrities and some newer one's (I don't care if you're a D or F list celebrity-it's all fame and fortune to me!) up to the 3 homeless family challenge test. For under $10,000 and their contact list, any celebrity can take 3 families from homeless to housed and financially on their way...in 7 days! I want to actually see a family make it up out of the stillness of feeling so alone, so desperate and in mental agony and pain. So why not raise to the challenge and help someone really become financially able to help themselves! It's only money to most celebrities, right? It's way over due for something like this and I'm tired of the over used, whiny-assed excuses as to why someone is homeless. Remember, most working-class families or individuals are only one paycheck away from being homeless, so why not go to your local homeless shelter and sponsor 3 back onto the road of happiness, shelter and financial security? Listen, if Sharon Stone, just by her name alone, can stand up in an auction and make things happen, I know other celebrities can make this happen. Newsflash! If you're going to use your name, picture and likeness (smile for the camera)...why not put that pose where it will really count? Buy yourself and 3 other families a membership into affluence that will change their lives (and yours) forever! Just think, those 3 families you've just sponsored? You just helped make their 2007-2008 a really happy one-and yours, too!TheFundraisingDiva
